What Is Emotional Well-being?

Emotional well-being, which is also known as emotional health, is a person’s ability to handle their emotions and the varied experiences they encounter in life.

The National Centre for Emotional Wellness defines emotional wellness as ‘an awareness, understanding and acceptance of our feelings, and our ability to manage effectively through challenges and change’.

  • Having the ability to talk with someone about your emotional concerns and share your feelings with others
  • Saying ‘no’ when you need to without feeling guilty
  • Feeling content most of the time
  • Feeling you have a strong support network (i.e. people in your life that care about you)
  • Feeling good about who you are
