Finding Our Rhythm.
At Bowmans we are focused on our ongoing investment in programmes and resources to make sure that all of us have the tools at hand to find our own personal rhythm while building our careers, collaborating effectively and contributing to the Firm and individual team’s objectives of delivering excellent client service.
To this end we are pleased to share with you an exciting refresh on our existing mentoring offering which is aimed at Associates, Senior Associates and Business Service Professionals.
What is it?
We consider Mentorship to be a relationship rooted in knowledge sharing between mentor and mentee. In essence, we consider mentorship to be a relationship and interactive dialogue between mentor and mentee that results in support and guidance, knowledge transfer and sharing of a different perspective.
Why mentorship?
We believe that a firmwide mentorship programme is needed to develop, mentor and guide our people with on the job learning and retention. This will better prepare them to embrace rapid growth, balance numerous responsibilities, effectively lead teams, and work towards fulfilling our vision to be the pre-eminent law firm in Africa.
By working closely with a mentor, this will enable our people to navigate their career paths within the firm and equip them with the behaviours and skills needed to deal with everyday challenges and opportunities.
The objectives of this programme will be to:
-
- Extend the current CA mentoring programme to all Associates, Senior Associates and Business Service Professionals. The CA programme is a formal structured programme and good base for more informal and organic mentoring to continue and is strongly supported and requested by our juniors;
- Provide ongoing support and mentoring throughout their career trajectory;
- Assist with the on-the-job experiences and challenges, and provide opportunities for our people to learn, grow and thrive at Bowmans.
How will it work?
- The mentee has the flexibility to select own mentor, to meet at own pace, organically and work on an agenda that ultimately meets their own unique interests, needs, and goals;
- Those who have volunteered to be mentors will be paired with someone who is junior to them;
- Mentees will be requested to choose three mentors in order of preference;
- Chemistry sessions between the mentor and mentee will be set up by admin resources;
- Pairings may be across practice groups, offices and regions.
